Background of the Study

Cyber Threat Intelligence (CTI) refers to the collection and analysis of data to identify potential threats to an organization’s cybersecurity. With the increasing sophistication of cyberattacks, Federal University, Gusau, Zamfara State, faces the challenge of defending its network against a wide array of cyber threats. Traditional methods of securing networks often focus on reactive measures rather than proactive threat detection and prevention. By utilizing CTI, universities can gain valuable insights into emerging threats and take preventive actions before an attack occurs.

This study explores how Cyber Threat Intelligence can be integrated into Federal University, Gusau’s cybersecurity strategy to improve its ability to predict, detect, and respond to cyber threats. The focus is on identifying how CTI can be utilized to enhance the university’s security posture, improve incident response times, and reduce the likelihood of successful cyberattacks.

Statement of the Problem

Federal University, Gusau, has yet to fully integrate Cyber Threat Intelligence into its cybersecurity practices. As a result, the university may lack the proactive measures necessary to address emerging threats. This study aims to explore the potential of CTI in enhancing the university’s cybersecurity defense mechanisms and mitigating the risks posed by cyber threats.

Objectives of the Study

  1. To assess the current state of cybersecurity practices at Federal University, Gusau.

  2. To evaluate the role of Cyber Threat Intelligence in improving network security and incident response.

  3. To propose strategies for integrating CTI into the cybersecurity framework of Federal University, Gusau.

Research Questions

  1. What are the current cybersecurity practices and defenses employed at Federal University, Gusau?

  2. How can Cyber Threat Intelligence be integrated into the university's cybersecurity strategy?

  3. What impact would the adoption of CTI have on the security posture and incident response capabilities of Federal University, Gusau?

Significance of the Study

This study will enable Federal University, Gusau, to better understand and implement CTI to enhance its proactive defense against emerging cyber threats. By integrating CTI into its cybersecurity strategy, the university can improve its ability to detect and respond to cyberattacks and protect sensitive data and academic resources.

Scope and Limitations of the Study

The study will focus on the integration of Cyber Threat Intelligence into the cybersecurity framework at Federal University, Gusau. It will not cover broader aspects of network security beyond CTI or address other security tools such as firewalls or endpoint protection.

Definitions of Terms
